A sequel to this past weekend’s rom-com hit Crazy Rich Asians is already in development at Warner Bros. Pictures.

Jon M. Chu will return to direct the new film along with the same creative team including screenwriters Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim and producers Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson and John Penotti.

The first film has been lauded as the first studio film in over 25 years, since 1993’s “Joy Luck Club,” to feature a nearly all Asian-American cast. It recently opened with a five-day total of $35 million, the biggest rom-com launch in years.

Kevin Kwan penned three books with the first serving as the basis for the first film. The second book “China Rich Girlfriend” will be adapted for the follow-up which deals with the development of Charlie (Harry Shum Jr.) and Astrid’s (Gemma Chan) relationship. At the same time, Nick (Henry Golding) and Rachel (Constance Wu) head to China on a search for her father.
