Today, July 7, marks the day Verizon will no longer offer new unlimited data plans. The carrier will notify users of how many megabytes they’ve used up with free text messages at 50, 75, 90, 100 and 110 percent of their monthly data allowance. Subscribers with My Verizon accounts can opt for e-mail warnings instead.
Warnings at the 50 and 75 percent levels can be opted out of totally, but the remaining three cannot. Users also have the option of checking where they are themselves, using the Data Usage widget for Android and BlackBerry handsets, using the online data calculator or entering #DATA onto their handset.
