SkyDrive Gets Windows 8 Facelift – SkyDrive for Android Due Later this Month

SkyDrive is receiving a fresh makeover into the Windows 8 style. The updated visual style arrives alongside improvements to the Windows and OS X SkyDrive clients, as well as announcements of a new SkyDrive Android app and updates to the API for developers.

The web-based interface now offers a tile-based layout, matching the previously-detailed Metro-style user interface prevalent in Windows 8 and Windows Phone 7. “Instant Search” adds updating results to searches, improved sorting options, while multiple item selection, drag-and-drop, and a contextual toolbar are also seen in the changes.

Desktop SkyDrive clients have seen improvements to photo upload speeds and in finding changes for synchronization, with updates expected to roll out later this week. The Android SkyDrive app, due in a few weeks time, will apparently be similar to its iOS and Windows Phone counterparts.
