NBC has rebranded its recent sporting app releases for more general use, now than the London 2012 Summer Games are over. The same app used to stream official Olympic Games video feeds and information has been turned into the NBC Sports Live Extra app, with the update taking place on both the Android (Google Play) and iOS (App Store) versions.

The app will now stream live sporting events that air on NBC, NBCSports Network, and the Golf Channel, with the vast majority of content requiring TV Everywhere authentication for access, effectively proving that users subscribe to qualifying cable packages. MLS, NHL, LPGA, PGA Tour, European PGA Tour, and the Ryder Cup along with other events will be available for streaming, with added highlights, event stats and social elements also in place.

Originally, the apps were used to show live streams for all 302 events across 32 sports in the Olympic Games, with the intention of the apps becoming a “second screen” viewing aid to existing televised content.
