Following the teaser late last week for the upcoming “ResurrXion” event, Marvel has announced via Twitter that the X-Man Iceman will be getting his own ongoing series. The announcement comes with teaser art featuring highlights from Iceman’s 50-year comic history.

The teaser, which also bears the “ResurrXion” logo, says the ongoing series will arrive in spring 2017. No creative team is attached to the series at this time. This is not the first time Iceman has had his own series; the character previously had limited series in 1984 and 2001.

A founding member of the X-Men, Iceman debuted in 1963’s “X-Men” #1. Originally the youngest and most immature member of the team, Iceman has grown over the decades, expanding the scope of his ice powers and maturing (at least a little bit) along the way. Additionally, Iceman’s served as a member of the Champions, the Defends and X-Factor as well as numerous lineups of X-Men. In 2012, the original five teenage X-Men were transported to the present from early in their time at Xavier’s, resulting in two Icemen — one adult and one teen — being active simultaneously. The adult Iceman is a current member of “Extraordinary X-Men” while the teenage Bobby co-stars in “All-New X-Men.”

Over fifty years after his debut, Iceman came out as gay in 2015’s “All-New X-Men” #40, making him one of Marvel’s most prominent LGBT characters. Iceman has appeared in numerous cartoons (including a starring role in the ’80s series “Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends) and feature films (played by Shawn Ashmore).
