Leica has launched its latest compact digital camera, one which includes Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity. The stylish Leica C houses a 1/1.7-inch, 12.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, while its f/2.0-5.9, 7x zoom lens has a 35mm-equivalent range of between 28mm and 200mm, and a programmable ring surrounding the lens for mode selection.

The rear three-inch LCD screen is accompanied by a 200,000-dot electronic viewfinder, with the Wi-Fi and NFC also allowing for remote control via an iOS and Android mobile app. It also has a shutter speed of between 1/4000 of a second and up to 60 seconds, an ISO range of 80 to 12,800, optical image stabilization, and is supplied with an integrated flash with red-eye reduction.

The Leica C is available in a choice of “light gold” with gold, ivory, and black colorings, or a “dark red” that combines black and burgundy tones, while its external design remains close to others in the Leica stable. The accessories line includes the Leica C-Clutch, capable of holding the camera and other items, as well as the C-Twist, C-Snap, C-Case, C-Pouch, and C-Wrist Strap.

Going on sale through Leica dealers in the UK from mid-September, the Leica C will cost £550 ($860), with buyers also able to download a free copy of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.
