Google Docs Adds Editing in 44 Languages for Mobile Platforms

Google Docs mobile editing has been significantly upgraded this week with the addition of 44 more languages. Google’s update has expanded beyond English for the first time and lets smartphone or tablet owners edit in many Asian and European languages as well as languages that read right-to-left, such as Arabic or Hebrew.

The HTML5-based editing still has the same requirements as before. iPhone and iPad users can edit with an OS as old as iOS 3.0, but Android users will need at least 2.2 to get the same features. BlackBerry and Symbian users can still edit spreadsheets and view documents, but Google hasn’t said if or when they will get text editing. Only BlackBerry 6 and Symbian^3 or later currently have modern web browsers as a stock feature.
