Nicolaj Coster-WaldauIt looks like director Alex Proyas has cast the lead in his Ancient Egypt-based fantasy epic Gods of Egypt and it’s none other than Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, best known for playing Jaime Lannister on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” who is in talks to star in the film being produced and distributed by Summit Entertainment.

Proyas is directing from an original screenplay by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, which tells the story of a common thief teaming with Gods on a magical quest. According to The Wrap, Coster-Waldau would play one of the gods in that equation, specifically Horus, God of the Sky, who teams with Hathor, the Goddess of Love, and the human thief to avenge the death of his father, Osiris.

Besides playing a big part in Season 3 of “Game of Thrones,” the Danish actor is coming off his roles in the Guillermo del Toro-produced horror movie Mama and the Tom Cruise sci-fi action flick Oblivion and is currently filming the comedy The Other Woman with Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and director Nick Cassevetes.
