Aspire A7Acer is adding a new line of  Windows 8 based Aspire R7 laptops to its hardware lineup, capping off a busy week which also sees it introducing a new Aconia A1 line of ultra low cost Android tablets while also unwittingly announcing the first eight inch Windows 8 tablet.

The Aspire R7, which the company teased in a Star Trek video last week is of particular note in that it’s a new kind of laptop-tablet hybrid, relying on Ezel technology to transfer the screen back and forth for either keyboard or touchscreen input, and offers an entirely different take on the Windows 8 hybrid theory than Microsoft’s own Surface Pro which is more of a tablet than a PC.

While Acer intended to introduce the Aspire R7, another Windows 8 based product slipped out unintentionally. Amazon accidentally posted an early listing for Acer’s new Windows 8 based tablet, the first eight inch tablet from any vendor to run the Windows 8 operating system, ahead of even Microsoft itself.

Elsewhere Acer has introduced the Aconia A1 in a bid to see just how low it can go in terms of specs and pricing in the seven inch Android tablet arena. The $169 tablet doesn’t do much, but it doesn’t much either. The tiny price tag on the A1 tablet stands in sharp contrast to the company’s Aspire R7 touchscreen laptop, which is debuting for about a thousand dollars. The video below give you a good show about the different ways you can use the R7, so be sure and check it out.
