FOX has handed out a put-pilot commitment for a Lethal Weapon reboot series from Warner Bros. Television, says The Hollywood Reporter. Warner Bros. Pictures produced the original movies starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover.

According to the trade, “the TV version centers on a Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs (originally played by Gibson) who, following the loss of his wife and baby, moves to Los Angeles to start anew. There, he gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh (Glover), who, having recently suffered a “minor” heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life.”

The FOX pilot will be written by Matt Miller (“Forever,” “Chuck”), who will executive produce via his Good Session production company. Lin Pictures’ Dan Lin (The LEGO Movie, Suicide Squad) and Jennifer Gwartz are exectuve producing.

THR says that, although the original filmmakers will not be involved and won’t be credited on the drama, they have blessed the Lethal Weapon reboot.

The original film hit theaters in 1987 and was followed by three sequels in 1989, 1992 and 1998.
