Tweetbot Updated for Mac, iOS – Now Support for Images in Direct Messages

Both the Mac and iOS versions of Twitter client Tweetbot have been updated recently, bringing support for images in direct messages (reflecting an upcoming change in Twitter itself) as well has generally improving how the apps handle images overall. Both also received the usual “various bug fixes,” with the Mac version specifically fixing a problem with reading unread feed items. Twitter has not yet publicly implemented images in direct messages, but will soon.

Syncing with iCloud, audio playback problems and other flaws have also been fixed. The iOS version, now listed at v3.2.1, still doesn’t offer a native iPad app, but works with the iPhone and iPod Touch (and on the iPad as a half-size app). It is currently on sale until Friday for $2, more than half off its normal price ($5) and a dollar off the most recent price. The Mac version (now at 1.4.1) is priced at $20 due to restrictions from Twitter in the number of authorization tokens a non-Twitter-owned desktop client can have. Twitter is deeply integrated into OS X in recent versions, but some prefer the Tweetbot client to either the built-in version or Twitter’s own official desktop client.

Tweetbot offers customized sounds and animation as well as a alternative user interface for Twitter that offers multiple timelines and custom column views, full Notification Center support, Retina graphics, “mute” filters that allow blocking without unfollowing users (also certain keywords or hashtags can be muted), cross-device iCloud syncing, the ability to save drafts, and support for “read it later” type services among other features. The iOS 7 version has also recently been updated to reflect the new look and feel of the system.
