In theory, curving TVs improves the picture as the screens get bigger, which makes Sony’s latest model an exercise in common sense. The S90B-75 is a 75-inch curved LED 4K TV with built-in surround sound, and although it will cost a pretty penny, you might just get what you pay for.

The S90B-75 will launch in October 2014 in Europe for €8,500 ($11,175), and the product is likely to release in the United States with a similar price tag a little later on. A 65-inch model with the same capabilities will cost a bit less, but still retail for more than a flat-panel LED with a standard sound system. We checked out the 75-inch behemoth firsthand at IFA 2014.

During its IFA press conference, Sony boasted that its TVs were some of the most gorgeous on the market, and what we saw generally backs up that assertion. In addition to an attractive, minimalist hardware design, the S90B-75 displayed a bright, colorful picture without any hiccups. Even looking at a very close distance, you could not notice any significant pixelation.

Aside from the TV’s 4K resolution, Sony hopes to sell the product based on its built-in surround sound. While not technically surround sound, the TV gives an impressive approximation by placing two speakers on the back and two front-facing speakers on the sides..

Beyond that, the TV is exactly what it claims to be. Its curved form factor, enormous size and high price point may make the S90B-75 prohibitive for some living rooms. Even so, videophiles with money to burn and a love for high-quality integrated sound swill stand in line to own one.
