During Sony’s Investor Relations Day, PlayStation CEO Andrew House referred to the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV as “legacy platforms.”
In a statement sent to Games Beat, a Sony spokesperson cleared up that House was just mentioning the write-off Sony experienced for the PS Vita 1000, which has been discontinued:
What Andy mentioned as ‘legacy platform’ was part of the write-off for PS Vita components for the first generation of the PS Vita, which is no longer available in the market. And he did not directly mean the current PS Vita and PS TV models, which are available in the market. Our portable business will be continued, and many users are now enjoying PlayStation 4 remote play features as well as original PS Vita game titles on PS Vita and PS TV.
In the associated slide presentation, Sony highlighted the “write-off of PS Vita components and etc” as a factor in their operating income change from the April forecast.
While Sony says “our portable business will be continued,” they didn’t mention the Vita when listing their Fiscal Year 2015 strategy, which includes maintaining and strengthening the PS4’s competitive advantage as a console, enhancing the user value of PlayStation Plus, enriching total content, and continuing partnerships with 3rd party services.
