Watch out Angry Birds! A new mobile app is making its way to the big screen as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Australia’s Halfbrick Studios is looking to adapt their hugely popular Fruit Ninja game as a live-action family comedy. L

Tripp Vinson (San Andreas, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) will produce the feature film through his Vinson Films production banner, with screenwriters JP Lavin and Chad Damiani (the in-development How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack) attempting to turn the rather simple interface of slicing fruit and avoiding bombs into a viable dramatic story with elements like characters, backstory, a through line and human emotion. Sam White and Tara Farney will executive produce.

With over 1 billion downloads and counting, Fruit Ninja is currently the second top-selling iOS game of all time.
