Back in early April, word spread of an interesting trademark registered by Sony. It was for a PS Vita game called Destiny of Spirits, and ever since then, we’ve all wondered what it could be.
Now, we know. Sony has officially revealed Destiny of Spirits. It’s a free-to-play “social” RPG under development at Sony-owned Studio Japan with help from Q-Entertainment.
Due out in 2013, Destiny of Spirits is considered a “location-based strategy game… where players from around the world work cooperatively in turn-based action to battle fierce bosses to unlock an expansive virtual world.”
“Using location technology, the game places players on a global map, creating a hyper-social experience, where the player is connected to and working with others collectively to progress and unlock powerful new Spirits that can be unleashed during combat to defeat enemies.”
The crux of Destiny of Spirits is its interactivity and “location technology” that tethers players and spirits to specific real-life locations. It’s built on Sony’s new Destiny Engine, and promises “hours and hours of dynamic content with the option to purchase items to create an even better experience.”
We hope to have more on Destiny of Spirits very soon.
