Google-owned artificial intelligence lab DeepMind is setting up shop in the US.

The London-based firm last week advertised a new job as an applied research scientist in Mountain View, Calif.

As reported by Business Insider, DeepMind plans to hire “a couple of dozen” people for a mixed group of software engineers and research scientists “who work together to solve real-world problems at Google-scale,” the posting said.

“We’re proud to already have close partnerships with many teams at Google, but we’re yet to develop an algorithm that gets rid of time zone differences,” a company spokesman told Business Insider.

“So we’re hiring a small DeepMind Applied team in Mountain View to bridge the gap between Google and our team in London, helping us collaborate even more closely to bring out research breakthroughs to Google users around the world,” DeepMind said.

This new unit—DeepMind’s first to be situated outside London—will operate out of Google’s existing Mountain View headquarters, according to Bloomberg. New hires, however, can expect to rack up the frequent flier miles: “You will be encouraged, especially early on, to spend as much time as is practical in London,” the job posting said.
