A New Disaster Report Game Is on the Way for PS4

One of the more interesting survival game series released over the years was that of Zettai Zetsumei Toshi, or Disaster Report as it was known in the West. While Irem has moved onto other things, their spiritual successor Granzella has taken up the mantle and will be bringing a new game in this series to the PS4.

The first two games were developed by Irem on PS2 and garnered somewhat of a cult following, both in Japan and abroad. The main premise being that you had to survive the landscape of a Japanese city after a severe earthquake had recently occurred. As you weren’t fleeing from zombies, which seems to be the bulk of most survival horror games, what made these games stand out was that the environment itself was the threat. Buildings would collapse at a moment’s notice and that made for a uniquely tense experience.

Irem eventually made Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 3, which was released on PSP back in 2009. The plan was to follow up with a PS3 game, but due to the huge Tohoku earthquake in 2011 the game was put on hold.

After Irem quietly went into the night and moved away from making these kinds of games, the producer of this series Kujo Kazuma set up Granzella back in 2011. Initially working on content for PlayStation Home, Granzella recently got the rights to the Disaster Report games.

And now there’s a new game, the fourth in the series. While originally planned for PS3, it sounds like the game has been rebooted for PS4. No word on a release date yet but this is something I will be keeping my eye on. Now if only Granzella could develop a new R-Type game. Check out the trailer below.
