3DS Setting Sales Records for Nintendo

Two days after the 3DS’s American launch, Nintendo has announced that its newest portable console has set sales records.

First-day sales for the 3DS have topped those of all other Nintendo consoles, the company said. Nintendo sold 371,326 3DS units during the device’s first weekend in Japan, topping the sales for the DSi during the same period.

“Nintendo worked hard to get as much product as possible to retailers on day one to meet demand, and we will continue with these efforts moving forward,” the company said in a statement.

Nintendo said that the actual first-day sales numbers would not be released until April 14th after NPD Group compiles the numbers.

Analysts aren’t surprised. “Given the awareness and hype over the 3DS, I’d expect week 1 3DS sales to surpass week 1 DS sales from 2004, said Jesse Divnich of EEDAR.
