Nintendo Will be First with a Next Gen Console Release, Per M2 Research

Nintendo’s Wii 2 could launch in 2012 if Billy Pidgeon, senior analyst at M2 Research, is correct. The analyst believes the successor to Nintendo’s Wii console is likely to spearhead the next generation of hardware releases in an interview with Now Gamer.

Pidgeon says that, in light of Microsoft’s call for talent, we shouldn’t expect to see a descendant of the Xbox 360 any time soon: “…recruiting talent to create and build the hardware has to take place years before a development kit is available, and developers would need a least a year to eighteen months lead time to market release to create games for the launch window.”

A new Wii, however, could be a 2012 release, although Pidgeon points out that a 2013 release would prevent any serious clashes with the 3DS.
