DC is developing a live-action Swamp Thing TV series for its direct-to-consumer streaming service which also finally has a name – DC Universe.

Aquaman and The Conjuring director James Wan is set to executive produce the series, which is eyeing a 2019 debut. Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica) and Gary Dauberman (IT) are attached to co-write the series and act as showrunners.

The story follows CDC researcher Abby Arcane who returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. She develops a bond with scientist Alec Holland who is then tragically taken from her.

As powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties, Abby will discover it holds mystical secrets both horrifying and wondrous – and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.

Dick Durock played the role in Wes Craven’s 1982 film adaptation and the 1990s USA Network series. Should it be picked up, it would join the other series set for DC Universe including the live-action Titans and the animated titles Young Justice: Outsiders and Harley Quinn. Check out the just-released official show logos below.

DC Universe is expected to launch later this year.
