SanDisk has unveiled a new SD card that offers a write speed of up to 250MB/s, making it ideal for recent camera releases from Sony and Panasonic capable of recording 4K-resolution video at a high data rate. The SanDisk Extreme Pro SDHC/SDXC UHS-II memory card exceeds the UHS Speed Class 3 Rating, with its writing speed beaten only by the 280MB/s read speed.

Offering a minimum sustained write speed of 30MB/s, the cards are said to be shock, X-ray, and water-proof, and able to operate in temperatures between -13 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit. The cards are also supplied with a one-year subscription to RescuePRO Deluxe, data recovery software that can be used to recover accidentally deleted or otherwise lost images and videos on memory cards.

The SanDisk Extreme Pro SD UHS-II Card Reader/Writer will also be shipping at the same time as the new memory cards. Capable of reading SD UHS-II cards, the reader is able to transfer to a connected computer at speeds of up to 500MB/s over USB 3.0, though it will also work with USB 2.0 connections and with other SD cards. SanDisk is pricing the reader at $50.
