For some time now, things have been pointing towards the Marvel Cinematic Universe bringing the lesser-known character Night Nurse into the fold. Rosario Dawson essentially took on the role in the Netflix shows, playing the character Claire Temple, but Marvel’s Daredevil season one showrunner Steven S. DeKnight previously confirmed they were told not to use the name because there were plans to include her in the films down the line.

Later, the signs pointed toward Rachel McAdams as playing the character in the Doctor Strange feature film, and it was seemingly confirmed when it was announced her character was none other than Christine Palmer (one of three Night Nurses in Marvel comics canon). There’s one wrinkle though, speaking with EW, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said she won’t become that character in this film.

I will say that that story line does not play into the movie.”

Regarding the future though, Feige did tease:

“It’s just as much fun for us as it is for the fans to speculate about that.”

McAdams herself offered an even more vague tease, saying: “Mum’s the word on that one.”

Could we be seeing McAdams become the Night Nurse for the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War? Benedict Cumberbatch is already confirmed to appear in the ensemble film, which begins shooting in January. Maybe he’ll bring her along. Sound off with your thoughts below!

Doctor Strange also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg, Benjamin Bratt, Scott Adkins, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton. The film is directed by Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily RoseDeliver Us From Evil) from a script by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus, Passengers) and Derrickson & C. Robert Cargill (Sinister). Catch it in U.S. theaters on November 4 in 3D, RealD 3D and IMAX 3D.
