Netflix In Talks For The Rights To The Locke And Key Series

Two months after Hulu decided to not proceed, final negotiations are underway with its lead rival Netflix to pick up the series adaptation of Joe Hill’s comic Locke & Key.

Talks between Netflix and the show’s producers started after the Hulu rejection, and the talk is for licensing the rights to the IP, which means it’s NOT picking up the existing Andy Muschietti-directed Hulu pilot to series.

Instead, the project will undergo redevelopment, including the recasting of two of the three Locke children (actor Jackson Robert Scott is staying). Muschietti will no longer be able to helm the pilot due to his IT: Chapter Two commitments, but he will remain as executive producer.

The comics series, which ran from 2008-2013, follows three siblings who return to their family estate in Massachusetts after the gruesome death of their father.

Once there, they discover magical keys that grant special powers and open strange doors that change those who dare to walk through them. Unfortunately, they’re not the only ones interested in these mysterious artifacts, as a supernatural force is also after them and trying to force them to open the most terrible door of them all.

Carlton Cuse, Barbara Muschietti, Ted Adams and David Ozer will all executive produce. Frances O’Connor, Nate Corddry, Samantha Mathis, Owen Teague and Danny Glover co-starred in the Hulu pilot.
