NAVIGON Updates iOS GPS Apps with New UI and Options

NAVIGON has updated its various iOS GPS apps to v2.0. While the interface of the software has been refined, the main improvement is the switch to an entirely new map system. App and map content has been separated, the latter in a way that allows people to download only the regions needed for a given trip. Owners of the North American app might for instance download only one or two states or provinces at a time, saving space on their device.

NAVIGON adds that because map content is treated separately, each app can be updated without having to reinstall maps multiple times. The developer has moreover launched FreshMaps, a in-app platform through which people pay a one-time fee for quarterly map updates. Paying for FreshMaps automatically upgrades the USA or regional apps to full North American coverage.

Some of the interface changes include new multi-touch gestures, and the ability to jump to the start screen to enter a new address without ending the current route. Functions have been split into Settings and Actions menus; Actions contains options such as points-of-interest search. Users can now rotate and zoom in any direction in 3D mode, and tap POIs on a map to add them to a route.

Until November 30th NAVIGON is offering discounted prices on both the apps themselves and various in-app upgrades. The North American app for example is currently $40 instead of $60, while the regional maps are $20 apiece instead of $30. Discounts on FreshMaps upgrades are anywhere between $5 and $25.
