Microsoft has of its Wedge Mobile Keyboard and Mouse in readiness for users looking to get productive with the expected rush of Windows 8 tablets due late October. The keyboard comes enclosed in a cover, that when opened, forms a stand for a tablet. Joining the keyboard is Microsoft’s smallest mouse yet, designed to take up the bare minimum of storage space when on the go.

Available soon, the Wedge Mobile Keyboard can also be used by any number of Windows 7 tablets over Bluetooth. Surprisingly, the keyboard and mouse aren’t supported by Windows Vista, but will work with Mac OS X. However, there are some telltale signs that show it has been prepared in readiness for Windows 8 tablets, including the Charms Bar that will be a feature of the new ‘Metro’ user interface.

The Wedge Touch Mouse has been designed with the same complementary soft-touch surface used in the keyboard, but is sold separately. It uses Microsoft’s BlueTrack meaning that it will work on a wide range of surface types. Somewhat perplexingly, the larger keyboard takes two AAA batteries, while the mouse takes just one single AA battery.

The Wedge Mobile Keyboard will retail for $80, while the Wedge Mobile Mouse will go for $70.
