Michael Fassbender has been cast in David Sandberg’s action-comedy sequel to the 2015 acclaimed short film Kung Fury. Sandberg, not to be confused with the Shazam and Annabelle: Creation director of the same name, will also star in the title role in the project for his Laser Unicorns production company.

The first film was a Kickstarter record-breaker, made it into the Cannes Directors Fortnight and has gained over 40 million views worldwide. Set in Miami in 1985, Kung Fury is the toughest martial artist cop in the city and goes back in time to kill the worst criminal ever – the Kung Fuhrer himself Adolf Hitler (Jorma Taccone).

The sequel will be a full on feature and is set to film this Summer in both Europe and the United States. David Hasselhoff, who appeared in the original 2015 short film “Kung Fury” and sang the theme tune “True Survivor,” will also join the cast.

David Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith, Aaron Schmidt, Philip Westgren and Conor McCaughan will produce.
