Google recently updated both the Hangouts and Newsstand applications for Android devices.
The Hangouts app was updated in response to bugs when sending SMS and MMS messages. It should perform more consistently now at sending and receiving messages. The Newsstand app was also treated to bug fixes and given a new widget for Android home screens.
Both Hangouts and Newsstand are free to download from the Google Play Store.
