chrome LogoThe latest build of Chrome Canary for the Mac has switched to a 64-bit codebase, reports note. Canary is Google’s “experimental” version of Chrome, based on the absolute latest changes, which can make it unstable but with the benefit of early access to upcoming features. The first 64-bit build is listed as “Version 38.0.2114.2 canary (64-bit).”

On the Windows side, 64-bit support has already progressed to the beta channel. Since that took two months, Mac users may have to wait as long to take the same step, and longer still to see 64-bit support finalized. The technology should allow Chrome to better exploit RAM and multi-core processors.
