Facebook Adds Tor Support to Android Client

FacebookFacebook has made it possible for Android handset owners to access the social network securely and privately through the Tor anonymity service.

Facebook calls Tor access an experiment. People interested in using this secure connection need to download the Orbit: Proxy with Tor app from the Play Store and enable it within Facebook’s privacy settings.

Once turned on, browsing Facebook through the Orbit app will render users anonymous. Tor is able to hide IP addresses, which makes people/devices difficult, if not impossible, to track or locate.

Facebook believes Tor access will be benefit those who value their privacy. The Tor accessibility feature is being made available slowly over the course of the next few days. Facebook has no plans to bring Tor support to the Apple iPhone.
