Borderlands 2 Adding New Class and Custom Characters

The Mechromancer is the latest class of character appearing in the game, studio Gearbox Software revealed during last weekend’s PAX East fan event in Boston.

While Gearbox still needs to flesh out gameplay features for the Mechromancer, the character is a cyborg-style female that commands a robot called Deathtrap.

The class will be available as a download once Borderlands 2 launches, says the report, but can be scooped up for free as a pre-order incentive.

As for customizable characters, Gearbox says all gear is acquired by completing missions and gaining experience. Also, players who tackled the first Borderlands will get exclusive items.

The Mechromancer joins the Gunzerker as new classes appearing in the sequel to 2010’s Borderlands, one of the year’s big surprises in video games.

The story of Borderlands 2 brings players back to the planet Pandora, as they seek payback against Handsome Jack, the CEO of Hyperion Corporation.

The game launches September 18 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
