A historic comic art summit between the Man of Steel and JFK — disguised as Superman’s alter ego — fetched $112,015 at an auction.
The original cover drawing of Action Comics No. 309 was sold for the hefty sum during an auction last week in York, Pa., the York Daily Record reported. It shows Superman shaking hands with Clark Kent next to a caption asking, “Who is the mystery masquerader?”
Those who read past Curt Swan’s art learned that Superman asked President John F. Kennedy to dress up as Kent when the Last Son of Krypton met with other heroes, like Batman and Robin, who are depicted standing in line. The comic book came out days after the President was assassinated in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963, making it legendary, said Alex Winter, general manager of Hake’s Americana and Collectibles, which ran the auction.
The bidding was timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Kennedy’s assassination, he added.
