YouTube has launched an optimized HTML5 video service for BlackBerry 7 devices. Coming well after the development of similar optimized versions of its platform for iOS and Android devices, the new optimized site gives BlackBerry 7 users a much more streamlined interface for the popular video hosting service. The service only works for BlackBerry 7 devices, as the browser has more modern extensions than earlier versions of the BlackBerry OS.

The screenshot of the new interface, embedded below, shows what BlackBerry 7 users can expect when navigating to YouTube via their browser. The BlackBerry 7 OS is widely viewed as RIM’s best mobile interface to date, adding long overdue multi-touch functionality and putting it on a more even footing with iOS and Android.

However, it is a last of breed attempt for troubled handset manufacturer RIM, which is planning on switching to the QNX operating system for its future handsets. QNX is the OS that powers its faltering PlayBook tablet. Although PlayBook sales have been sluggish, critics have generally received the new OS positively.
