YouTube Claims T-Mobile Is Throttling Video Traffic

YouTube Logo AndroidYouTube says T-Mobile is throttling its video traffic, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The online video provider complains that its content has been degraded since the carrier launched Binge On, its unlimited video-streaming program. Binge On allows customers to stream unlimited video from select providers at 480p resolution. YouTube is not one of the approved providers for technical reasons.

“Reducing data charges can be good for users, but it doesn’t justify throttling all video services, especially without explicit user consent,” said YouTube.

The FCC has already asked T-Mobile to provide more details about Binge On, and its likely YouTube’s complaint will force the agency to examine the program more closely.

  1. Thank goodness for the progressive nature of most tech companies … hope they keep ratting out the greedy telecoms!
