Cablevision has now launched its DVR-Plus service in the Bronx in New York. It’s also available only to subscribers who opt for Cablevision’s Family Cable tier. The service will let users access recorded programs on the provider’s remote servers, with each having access to 160GB worth of storage.
The service went live on January 18 and costs nearly $11 per month alongside existing service. Any qualified digital set-top box in a household can access the DVR feature and schedule new recordings. Up to four shows can be recorded at once, while a fifth one is being watched that’s already been recorded.
Users can record TV series, pause and resume live programming thanks to a 15-minute buffer and set parental restrictions, like with traditional DVRs.
Thus far, only four Scientific Atlanta-made and Cisco-sold boxes are compatible with the service. The provider has not said when it will launch the service in other markets
