Withings has announced US availability of an accessory for iOS devices, the Blood Pressure Monitor. As with a conventional blood pressure reader, users strap a cuff around their arm, which measures systolic and diastolic figures as well as heart rate. A bundled cable, however, connects Withings’ cuff to an iOS device, where data is recorded through a special app that launches automatically.
Blood pressure data is then accessible both in the app and on a Withings profile webpage. Entries are marked by date and time of day, and graphs can incorporate data from Withings’ Wi-Fi weight scale. Information is sharable via email, Twitter or Facebook, or by syncing with record sites such as Google Health or Microsoft HealthVault.
The Blood Pressure Monitor costs $129. It supports all iPads and iPhones, but iPod touches must be second-generation or better. Withings notes that the accessory has FDA approval.
