Wireless DisplayPort Spec Coming

The WiGig Alliance and the VESA display group today said they were working together on developing a wireless DisplayPort standard. Both groups plan to share technology that would allow for “multi-gigabit” bandwidth and display quality as good as a wired DisplayPort connection over the air. The ultra wideband technology was considered good fit  due to  the sheer headroom to both match the quality  of DisplayPort as it moves into the future.

The spec could lead to more straightforward implementations such as wireless docking stations for notebooks.   Plus wireless DisplayPort   could be used in smartphones, TVs  and tablets. Having Wireless DisplayPort in TVs means  omputers could directly   output video to TVs without having to use a platform-specific wireless format such as Intel’s WiDi (Wireless Display).
