WinZip Comes to the iPhone, iPad – Extracts Files, Cannot Compress

Posted by at 12:48 pm on February 21, 2012

Utility maker WinZip has introduced the first iOS version of its software. Users can open and browse ZIP archives stored locally or attached to emails. This includes support for encrypted archives, and ones with multi-file attachments.

One difference from the desktop app is more restricted file preview support. iOS options include TXT, DOC, PDF, RTF, and Pages text documents; XLS, XLSX, PPT, Numbers, and Keynote presentations and spreadsheets; and finally webpages, as well as BMP, JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and GIF images. The app’s interface lets users manage local archives.

The app is a free download, requiring iOS 4.2 or later. Native iPhone and iPad interfaces are implemented.
