SadnessAnnounced early in the Wii’s lifecycle, Sadness was meant to be a Wii exclusive game, but was canceled. Two developers are picking up the pieces, however, with plans for release on Wii U.

Its original pitch described the game as a black and white horror title where players played as a woman a woman protecting her blind, paranoid schizophrenic, narcoleptic son in pre-World War I Ukraine. The game was being created by Polish developer Nibris before it was unfortunately canceled.

In a conversation with NintendoLife.com, developers HullBreach Studios and Cthulhi Games, who are both currently working on separate Wii U games, revealed the two are teaming up to revive the game. Jeremy Kleve of Cthulhi Games said, “Without a doubt, the original concept is a huge inspiration to us. We will be sticking to the original idea pretty closely, but don’t be surprised if there are some changes here and there in terms of characters, mechanics, and setting. Visually, the new Sadness will retain the Gothic noir scheme with a few exceptions.”

Sadness’ second shot is targeting a 2016 release
