WhatsApp Expands Group Chat Tools

WhatsApp today added a handful of features to its group chat function that should improve the experience.

For example, a new group description provides a short blurb that explains the purpose, topic, and guidelines behind each group.

Admins have a fresh set of controls that allow them to restrict who can change the group’s subject, icon, and description. Admins can also remove admin permissions from other participants, though group creators can no longer be removed from a group they created.

A new function called group catch up lets people who’ve been away from a group for a while catch up on the conversation. Participants can more easily search for others in the group.

LWhatsApp allows people to prevent themselves from being repeatedly re-added to groups they’ve chosen to leave.

The new features are rolling out to WhatsApp for Android and iOS today. WhatsApp is owned by Facebook
