Warner Bros Takes on Skylanders with Lego Dimensions Game

Warner Bros. is using the popularity of The Lego Movie franchise to produce a game that uses Lego figurines. Lego Dimensions will compete directly against the similar Disney Infinity and Skylanders games and play systems, by allowing players to bring specific Lego figures and models into the game using an accompanying kit of parts that constructs a “portal” between the worlds.

While Skylanders has its own ecosystem of characters, and Disney Infinity uses a variety of Disney properties to fuel the game’s content, Lego Dimensions will pull in characters from a number of movie franchises, reports the Wall Street Journal. Scenes and characters from Batman, Lord of the Rings, The Lego Movie, The Wizard Of Oz, and Back To The Future will be appearing in the game, among others, and though Warner properties will most likely feature the most, characters owned by Universal will also make an appearance.

As with the other systems, prospective players will have to acquire a starter set for $100, reports Game Informer, which will include the Lego Toy Pad, the Lego Gateway portal, and Lego models of the Batmobile, Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle. Extra figure packs will be available, priced between $15 and $25 each, depending on the contents.

Traveler’s Tales are developing Lego Dimensions for Warner on all major consoles, with it expected to go on sale on September 27.
