Earlier than expected, Verizon has launched the Motorola Droid 2 Global. The new version adds both GSM and tri-band HSPA 3G support to roam outside of the US. It also represents a performance upgrade: the Global’s TI OMAP processor clocks up to 1.2GHz from the original 1GHz.

Other than the options of white and silver colors, the QWERTY slider is similar in most respects to the earlier Droid 2 and revolves around a 3.7-inch, 480×854 touchscreen as well as a five-megapixel camera with 720P video capture. It still  sports with Android 2.2 and Flash 10.1. 8GB of storage is built-in, but an 8GB microSDHC card is preloaded to double the capacity.   You can go up 32GB extra with the microSDHC slot.

Verizon is already taking orders for the Droid 2 Global and is selling for $200 on a 2 year  contract, after a $100 mail-in rebate.
