Verizon without fanfare has started up a month-long promo to spur on tablet adoption. Anyone who buys a smartphone on a two-year contract between August 1 and 31 gets a $50 discount on buying a 3G or 4G tablet at the same time, also on a contract. Unlike most such promos, it includes the iPad 2 in addition to the Android tablets on Verizon’s roster.
Only the original iPad and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi are exceptions to the deal. Verizon takes care to include both new and upgrading customers as well as small-to-medium businesses and its own staff.
Verizon regularly has multi-device deals and is best known for its BOGO (Buy One Get One) deals, but until now it hasn’t done the same for tablets.
