Nikon  did a pre-Photokina  look  unveiling of  two point-and-shoot CoolPix cameras.

S1100pj

The S1100pj revamps its projector camera with a new look and upgraded features. The pico projector built into the body itself is 40 percent brighter, at 14 lumens, and casts up to a 47-inch image from more than seven feet away.

The camera can also work as a makeshift external display for a computer and, through USB, will show whatever is on the computer’s screen. Capturing and editing images is improved both with a three-inch touch display and new retouching modes that include drawing on photos as well as preset visual effects. Video records at up to 720p.

Nikon outfits the S1100pj with a 14-megapixel sensor, a 5X (28-140mm equivalent) stabilized lens and a maximum ISO 6,400 sensitivity. It should  ship in September for $350.

S5100

The S5100 has a conventional 12-megapixel sensor, a 5X stabilized lens and lower ISO 3,200 sensitivity. A relatively new addition detects tripods and knows to adjust exposure, ISO and shutter speed for the more stable environment. Nikon ships the S5100 in October for $180.
