Hitachi has launched a trio of 3TB hard disk drive solutions. They are available either as internal drive kits, external desktop drives, or in OEM form for manufacturers and PC system builders.
The new Hitachi Deskstar drives come in capacities of 2TB and 3TB and ship with a 64MB buffer and a 6Gb/s SATA interface. The kits ship with an 7,200RPM Deskstar 7K3000 hard drive, mounting screws and step-by-step instructions.
The new Hitachi XL desktop external drives come in capacities of 1TB, 2TB or 3TB with USB 2.0 connectivity. They are finished in a smooth black finish and can be positioned either vertically or horizontally.
Hitachi also announced today that it will be shipping its internal Deskstar 7K3000 drive family in capacities of 1.5 TB, 2TB and 3TB to its OEM and Channel Partners. It claims that they are the fastest and most energy efficient 7,200RPM drives on the market.
The 3TB Hitachi Deskstar internal hard drive kit is shipping this week to online and retail stores with a MSRP of $250. The Hitachi XL external hard drives are available now for $250 for the 3TB, $170 for the 2TB and $100 for the 1TB.
