Gamespot reports Epic Games has canceled a Gears of War project that had been rumored to feature Kinect functionality. The report cites comments from design director Cliff Bleszinski.
“Let’s just bury the hatchet now,” Bleszinski tells Gamespot. “Gears of War: Exile was an unannounced game that I can’t give any details about that has since been canceled.”
Rumors on Gears of War: Exile date as far back as late 2010, when IGN reported Microsoft and Epic Games were planning to unveil a Gears of War title supporting Kinect at the Spike TV Video Game Awards. But, it never appeared.
Then in February 2011, Kotaku reported a Kinect-enabled Gears of War was in the works, citing “sources claiming to be familiar with the project.” The reports says that the game was being developer as an “on-rails shooter,” so players would have limited movement controls.
