T-Mobile today said it would drop all existing Sidekick devices tomorrow, July 2. It still plans to support the Sidekick LX 2009 and 2008 but won’t sell either of the devices anymore. this is more bad news for the Microsoft phone units, just a day after waving the white flag on the Kin.
T-Mobile insisted the messaging phone line wasn’t going away and promised a “new and fresh experience” in the months ahead.
The line has a hard time since Danger was acquired by Microsoft in 2008 – Less frequent hardware updates and a botched server upgrade that nearly cost all users their data.
Is there really a need for the Sidekick line any more anyway? The myTouch 3G Slide is better in many respects and costs as much or less as Sidekicks have in the past. Plus with the Android marketplace, there is so much more an owner can do with it.
