Steam LogoPopular gaming service Steam logged a record number of concurrent users on Sunday, besting its previous high of 6.6 million users. Figures on the service’s site indicate that Steam hit 7,190,578 concurrent users mid-morning Eastern Time on December 1. The figure is indicative of the service’s growing popularity, and may bode well for the company’s impending Steam Box gaming devices.

VG24/7 noted Sunday that the most popular game remained Dota 2. That title hit a peak of 542,906 concurrent users. Valve’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was the second most popular title, but it was a distant second, as it peaked at 93,905 concurrent users.

Other popular titles include The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Sid Meier’s Civilization V, and Football Manager 2013.

The peak was likely helped along by the most recent Steam sale, which discounted a number of popular titles. The coming months may see increased interest in Steam, as Valve has rolled out Steam OS and a new innovative Steam Controller.
