Sprint today quickly ended rumors and launched the ZTE Peel. The 3G hotspot and case combo is   designed to give second- and third-generation iPod touch users Internet access anywhere without having a device removed from the iPod. It shares its connection over Wi-Fi with both the iPod and a second device, like a notebook or an iPad.

The device uses light WEP encryption but works with both Macs and Windows PCs without having to install software. ZTE’s design has its own internal battery, although neither it nor Sprint has said how long the case lasts.

Cost for both the device and the service are core to the Peel’s design. It costs $80 without a contract and has a special plan that provides 1GB of data per month for $30. Stores will start carrying the ZTE router on November 14.
