Sony Announces Two Compact iOS Docks with Ferrofluid Speakers

Sony has introduced two new compact speaker systems with magnetic fluid speakers and Apple device docking. The CMT-V75BTiP and the CMT-V50iP are both DAB receivers with a dock connector for iPhone, iPad, and iPod.

The speakers use a magnetic fluid technology, which Sony claims is a world first. A ferrofluid is used to passively damp the movement of the speaker cone instead of a dampener, due to its ability to transfer heat away from the voice coil without any extra energy input. The company claims the technology allows for a thinner and lighter design and less distortion in the mid- to high-frequency range.

Aside from the iOS dock, both devices can play CDs or pick up FM, AM, and DAB radio signals. The CMT-V75BTiP also provides Bluetooth connectivity, whereas the CMT-V50iP opts for USB ports for a direct connection with external storage. They will be available from the end of April.
