Xperia MSony today announced the Xperia M, a new low-cost Android smartphone.

The Xperia M includes a 4-inch display with 854 x 480 pixels and is powered by a dual-core processor. Sony says the M carriers forward the OmniBalance design elements first seen in the Xperia Z, which give it a more seamless look and feel.

Other features of the Xperia M include a 5-megapixel camera with HDR and a dedicated camera button; Sony’s WalkMan software and ClearAudio+, xLOUD and 3D Surround Sound sound enhancements; Stamina mode for more granular control over battery life; and NFC for easy tap-to-pair actions.

The Xperia M will be sold in black, white, yellow, and purple, and Sony will offer a dual-SIM version for select markets.

The Sony Xperia M is expected to go on sale worldwide during the third quarter.
